There are many occurrences where players report about the AR Mode not working in Pokemon GO installed on their smartphone. Instead, it shows an error saying “We’re not detecting your phone’s orientation. Would you like to turn off AR Mode?”
The error appears when the game is unable to initiate the AR mode and reflect the Pokemons in the real world.
So, what to do at times when you don’t want to turn off the AR mode but it’s not working?
Why is the AR Mode Not Working in Pokemon GO on my Smartphone?
The reason why the AR mode is not working and showing an error is – Your smartphone doesn’t have Gyroscope. Pokemon GO’s AR mode relies on Gyroscope to project the Pokemons and simulate them on top of the picture from your camera.
What is Gyroscope?
Gyroscope is a device consisting of a wheel or disc mounted so that it can spin rapidly about an axis which is itself free to alter in direction. The orientation of the axis is not affected by tilting of the mounting, so gyroscopes can be used to provide stability or maintain a reference direction in navigation systems, automatic pilots, and stabilizers.
It’s basically a sensor with 6 axis motion in 360 degrees including up, down, left, right rotation and twist.

How to check if Gyroscope is present on my smartphone or not?
If you’ve an iPhone 4 or newer, gyroscopes are already inbuilt in all of them. So, this problem shouldn’t occur to you if you’re playing from an iPhone 4 or greater.
For Android phones, some companies ship it while some don’t. So, there’s a nifty Android app called Sensor Kinetics which detects whether the Gyroscope is present in your phone or not. All you need to do is install and run the app and it will show you whether the sensor is present in your phone or not.
If your phone doesn’t have a Gyroscope sensor, there’s nothing you can do. It is fitted in at the time of smartphone manufacturing and the only solution to it is switch over to another smartphone.
What if the Gyroscope sensor is present in my smartphone but the problem still persists?
If the problem still persists, there might be some hardware issue due to which the game is not able to initiate the AR mode. Try logging in from another device with your Google Account or Trainer Club credentials to check whether the hardware is at fault or not.
